As we welcome the year 2025 on January 1st, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the foundations of our Christian faith and the pivotal role that Bible study plays in our spiritual journey. The beginning of a new year symbolizes a fresh start, an opportunity to renew our commitment to God’s word, which is described as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). This guidance is crucial as we navigate through the uncertainties of life.

The Bible encourages us to seek wisdom and understanding, not just for knowledge’s sake but for living a life that glorifies God. Proverbs 4:7 states, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” This verse underscores the value of diving deep into scripture, which is not merely an academic exercise but a transformative encounter with the divine. Bible study is where we find the principles to live by, the promises to hold onto, and the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Starting the year with a strong emphasis on Bible study can set the tone for spiritual growth. 2 Timothy 2:15 urges us, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” This directive is a call to diligence in our study, ensuring we are not just hearers but doers of the word (James 1:22).

Our faith is deepened through the study of scripture, as Romans 10:17 tells us, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Engaging with the Bible regularly reinforces our trust in God, reminding us of His faithfulness, His love, and His promises. It connects us to the community of believers past and present, as we learn from the lives of figures like Abraham, who by faith obeyed when called to go out to a place he was to receive as an inheritance (Hebrews 11:8).

As we begin this new year, let us resolve to make Bible study a cornerstone of our daily routine, understanding that it is through the word of God that we are renewed day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16). Let us embrace the journey of faith with the assurance that “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). This promise is a fitting reminder as we step into 2025, encouraging us to trust in God’s unchanging nature as we study His word and grow in our faith.
